Choose the right level of detail

Smaller blocks preserve more texture and work well when the subject still needs to be easy to recognize. Larger blocks create a more abstract mosaic with stronger shapes and fewer visible details.

Photos with clear silhouettes, strong contrast, and a limited number of focal points usually remain readable as the blocks grow. Experiment with more than one size before choosing the final version.

Use pixelation as a style, not only a privacy effect

Whole-image pixelation can create avatars, cover art, backgrounds, mood-board elements, or retro graphics. It works differently from true hand-drawn pixel art, but it offers a fast way to explore the visual direction.

If you only want the effect on one subject or region, switch to Selected Areas. The untouched part of the photo will remain sharp and create contrast with the blocky section.
